Life imitated art for Stephanie Beatriz who recorded hit Encanto song, ‘Waiting on a Miracle’ while secretly in labour!

In an interview with Variety, the former Brooklyn Nine-Nine star who voices the film’s protagonist, Mirabel Madrigal, revealed that she was waiting on her own miracle while singing in the booth!

The 41yo star, who was pregnant for the duration of the film’s production, decided to power through her labour pains in secret to get the job done.

“I didn’t want to tell anybody at Disney because I didn’t want anyone to freak out, but I was already having some contractions when we were scheduled to record that day,” she recalls in the interview. “I was like ‘Well, fingers crossed I finish the song before [the baby] comes!’”

The very next day, she and husband Brad Hoss welcomed a daughter, Rosaline.

And kept it a secret she did!  Encanto’s director Byron Howard confirmed that the rest of crew were oblivious to the real miracle taking place before them.

“We knew she was very, very, very, very ready to have that baby. But she did not tell us she was almost, almost ready,” he says.

“She loves it!”

In an interview with PEOPLE last month, the proud mum says that her daughter, now 6 months old, is already an Encanto fan.

“She heard the songs before anybody else did because I was pregnant with her while I was recording the songs.

“She recognised them super fast in a weird freakish, scary baby way,” Stephanie explained.

“Sometimes my husband will play them for her or I’ll sing them to her and, really, she knows them and she loves them.”

Stephanie, who fans fell in love with on Brooklyn Nine-Nine for her portrayal of “badass” Detective Rosa Diazalso, also spoke about how much the character Mirabel, came to mean to her.

“Most of [my roles] I disappear into the character, and in a weird way it’s the same with this because it’s the most ‘like me’ role I’ve ever played, yet I’ve disappeared. It’s not my face, it’s an animated person,” she explained.

Though little Rosaline is able to recognise the music from the hit film, her mum says she’s “excited” for her daughter to actually “watch the movie someday.”

“I can’t wait!”
