Brittany Hockley and her husband, Swiss footballer Ben Siegrist, are expecting their first baby after years of openly sharing their fertility journey.

Brittany Hockley and her husband, Swiss footballer Ben Siegrist, are expecting their first child together. The former The Bachelor star shared the news on Instagram alongside a series of photos with Ben, writing: “Can’t believe we are saying this, but it’s time for the next chapter… Baby squid is on its way!”

And the reaction was instant. “Still crying,” wrote Brittany’s Life Uncut co-host Laura Byrne. “The best news everrrrr.”

“Congrats darlin! I know you’ve been through it with IVF and the likes,” commented former Bachelorette Angie Kent. “It certainly can be a marathon for so many women. But now, your dream has finally come true!”

One follower summed up the reaction perfectly: “Not me crying over this news like it’s someone I know! So, so happy for you guys.”

Brittany has never shied away from talking about infertility

The pregnancy news is particularly poignant given just how openly Brittany has spoken about her experience trying to conceive.

Earlier this year, the 38-year-old shared a post that went viral after she addressed one of the questions women struggling with infertility can hear over and over again: “When are you having kids?”

Alongside holiday photos with Ben, Brittany wrote: “I’m 38. Married. I travel the world. No kids. Everyday I get asked why I don’t have kids or when I am having them. That I am missing out. To that I say I can’t fall pregnant. I hope that answers your questions.”

She went on to explain that it wasn’t for lack of trying.

“And anyone that struggles with infertility knows, it consumes your life and your thoughts,” she wrote. “Because I also wonder when and if we will have kids. It truly is exhausting.”

Her message resonated with thousands of women who understood exactly what she meant.

Her fertility journey started years before she met Ben

Brittany has previously revealed that her fertility journey began when she was just 33.

After hosting an interview about fertility on her podcast, she started looking into her own fertility and was shocked to discover that being healthy didn’t necessarily mean conceiving would be straightforward.

“In my head, I’m like, ‘My body is the perfect house for a baby’,” she previously told Mamamia.

After learning she had low natural chances of conceiving, Brittany made the decision to freeze her eggs.

Then came IVF and some devastating news

Years later, Brittany met Ben, and the couple continued their fertility journey together.

In 2023, they decided to freeze embryos. Brittany has previously spoken about the heartbreak of learning that her only successfully frozen embryo at the time was non-viable.

But the story didn’t end there. Brittany later revealed that she and Ben had three genetically tested embryos frozen.

She has also been candid about the emotional toll of infertility, including the pressure to feel like you’re doing everything “right” while having no guarantee that things will work out.

‘Doing everything right’ isn’t always enough

One of the biggest messages Brittany has wanted to share from her own experience is that fertility struggles aren’t necessarily something you can prevent by simply living a healthy lifestyle.

In an Instagram post about her journey, she wrote that “doing everything right” is sometimes not enough.

Her message was one of giving yourself grace rather than blaming yourself for something you can’t control.

And now, after years of uncertainty, IVF and sharing the hardest parts of her journey publicly, Brittany has a very different update to share. “Baby squid is on its way.”
