Dear Mama,

I want to hold you, engulf you in my arms and tell you it’s going to be ok.

I see you looking at your fresh newborn. The smell of her is intoxicating, it’s an addiction you never knew you had.

The love you feel is so heavy it pulls you to your knees. You never knew love like this could physically break you.

And you’re terrified.

Terrified if you’ll ever measure up to the women they need you to be.

Terrified that the weight of responsibility will paralyze you.

Terrified that you will never be the girl you once were, the only girl you knew.

But I want you to know this, you are going to be more than ok.

You will surprise yourself by the woman you become.

You’ll develop a quiet resolve and a strength that’s impenetrable.

Your children will heal the broken, dark parts of you because you can’t run away from your reflection when someone is watching you.

The responsibility will begin to feel like an honor and a badge you carry with giddy pride.

And the girl you once knew, well that girl will change…

Because now that girl isn’t a girl anymore.

That girl is a MOTHER

And Mama, you’re goning to be more than ok.

Happy Mothers day to all the Moms/Mums and caregivers out there. Especially my Mama who I love with all my heart ❤️
