“Fertility isn’t straight forward”: What Brittany Hockley wants you to know

Former The Bachelor Australia star, and current co-host of Life Uncut podcast, Brittany Hockley is getting candid about her fertility journey.

The 38yr old shared that it was only after hosting an interview about fertility on her own podcast that she started looking into her own. That was at the age of 33.

As someone who has lived a healthy lifestyle her whole life, she was shocked to find out that that didn’t necessarily line-up with what was happening on the inside.

“In my head, I’m like, ‘My body is the perfect house for a baby’,” shared the Aussie star in an interview with Mamamia.

She joins many women who have felt duped into thinking that falling pregnant would be easy from the outset, only to discover it’s not as easy as just stopping your contraceptives.

Upon discovering she had low natural conceptive chances at the age of 33, Brittany made the decision to freeze her eggs.

This was prior to meeting her now-husband Ben Siegrist a few years later. Research shows that fertility issues are just as likely to affect men as they are women, but once again the couple bumped into similar hurdles.

While Brittany’s partner, Ben, is also the picture of health, being a professional athlete, this didn’t necessarily equate to strong chances of conceiving.

In 2023, the couple decided to freeze embryos. While the results were initially ‘devastating,’ with her only successfully frozen embryo revealed to be ‘non-viable,’ Brittany has since shared that her and Benjamin now have ‘three genetically tested embryos frozen.’

While Brittany shares she’s thankful she started looking into her fertility when she did, there are a few things she wish she’d known sooner.

In a recent Instagram post, Brittany got candid about her fertility journey in the interest of spreading awareness — from what they don’t tell you in school, to some hard truths.

Importantly that “‘Doing everything right’ is sometimes not enough,” but that that’s not something to beat yourself up over. Rather a reason to give yourself some grace.
