46 names you’re not allowed to call your child in Australia

In a world where headline-grabbing baby names like 'Apple' and 'Jermajesty' (you can thank Jermaine Jackson for that one) are coming up against traditional favourites William and George, the task of choosing the perfect moniker for our children can sometimes be a controversial one.

But just to make the challenge a little, err, easier, the Victorian government have released a list of names that are now banned in that state.

And luckily for parents U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania, they got in early when naming their son Barron and the same goes for Diane Keaton, who gave her son the now-banned-in-Victoria name of Duke, with both names making this year's cut.

This is the list of names the Victorian state government have placed on their 2016 'banned' list:

Last year, the Australian government claimed they would not register a proposed baby name if it was "obscene or offensive, unreasonably long, contain symbols without phonetic significance or not in the public interest for some other reason".

This meant that truly bizarre names like #ROFL, Smelly, Medicare, Osama, Jesus Christ, IKEA and Ned Kelly were placed on this list in 2015.
