Aussie dad and tradie, Daniel De Gaye had a lightbulb moment back in 2016.

As a keen skateboarder himself, Daniel wanted to teach his three-year-old how to ride a board safely whilst also developing fundamental balance, stability and confidence.

“We got our son a skateboard as a gift, but we found it super hard for him to get involved with the board, so I ended up pulling him along one day,” explains Daniel.

“He wasn’t enjoying it at that moment, and then I had the idea that I needed to push him without holding him.”

And the idea for the Ookkie Skateboard was born.

As the rider learns and grows, the Ookie board will transition with them.

Designed to help young kids safely learn to skateboard, while also developing balance, stability and confidence, the Ookkie is all about combining fun and early development.

“We have designed the Ookkie for an average age range of 2-6 years old and a maximum recommended rider weight of 20kg. If they are under or up to this weight, they will be good to roll,” says Daniel

The board has a handle for parents and one for the kids to hold as they develop their balance and core strength and stability.

Learning to skate made easy.

Daniel says skaters as young as 10 months old are mastering the Ookie board.

“As the rider learns and grows, the board will transition with them. There are four stages of the Ookkie from all handles, to just the child or just the parent handle, to none at all when they are ready to skate on their own.

“When your little one is ultra-confident on their Ookkie, they can remove all handles and use the skateboard on it’s own without any parental or handle assistance. Each of these setting options are easy to set up and the Ookkie height is adjustable for both the parents and the kids so this training skateboard can be used by anyone.”

Ookkie Skateboards are available to purchase online for $179.95 each and are available in five colours. For more information head to Ookkie.
