“A rush to the ED at the Monash Children’s!” MAFS star’s baby has emergency procedure
Have you heard of intussusception?
MAFS‘ Charlene Perera’s Easter hit a little different this year as not long after the long weekend celebrations were over, the mum-of-one had to make a dash to hospital with her young son, Austin.
Sharing pics of her “little warrior” to her Instagram account, the popular Season 5 contestant wrote:
“What a crazy 24 hours! The whole kids sick parenting piece is another space!”
Charlene says she knew there was something wrong with their baby boy.
Charlene, who is engaged to 43yo Jonathan Byrnes, said that they knew something wasn’t right with 7mo Austin.
“A rush to the ED at the Monash Children’s … and before we knew it he was off to have a procedure due to “intussusception”, something that is super common in kids his age and something we had never heard of.”
She’s not alone! A quick straw poll of 10+ parents and the only one who had heard of it was… a midwife.

Austin and his step brother, just a few days before the little one became unwell.
Before meeting Jonathan on Bumble two years ago – after her ‘failed’ MAFS marriage to Patrick – the former reality star also revealed she’d undergone a few rounds of egg freezing.
“I always wanted to have children, and then, obviously, I hadn’t met anybody at that time. I wanted a career, so I just had planned that in a few years I would do that [have children] on my own if I haven’t met anybody,” she admitted. “But now I’ve met somebody.”
Following Austin’s surgery, Charlene gave a shout out to her fiancé, the influencer, actor and model also gave props to family and friends and the hospital – as well as “Giles the Giraffe who always gets us through!”
“Little warrior” 7mo Austin was admitted to Monash Hospital and treated for intussusception.
“Everything was successful and hopefully we will get to go home later tonight,” Charlene posted. “What a character building experience, he’s a little warrior!”
Fortunately the little trooper was back in the arms of his loving family the following day.
