Born 6 weeks early, baby Crew soon went to NICU

Sports Illustrated model, not-for-profit founder and self-styled “Krispy Kreme Connoisseur’, Jena Sims has given birth to her first baby, a boy, with husband Brooks Koepka six weeks early.

Baby Crew (aka Blake – more on that later!) was born on July 27, 2023, in a surprise arrival and his birth was announced on August 3. Shortly after sharing their happy news, the couple shared that Crew had to be admitted to neo natal intensive care (NICU).

Baby Crew was able to go home three weeks after his birth! Scroll down to see the sweet photos of his homecoming.

The new mum had to have a c-section, which “was not my first choice but it was the only way to get him here safely…” and said that it was a “barbaric procedure” but that she’d turned a corner, her milk was coming in and that “it was all worth it”.

Leaving the hospital without baby Crew was not easy. “Leaving hospital without your baby is something I wish for no one,” she posted on Instagram. “It’s the hardest thing we’ve ever done. There’s so much space in my heart for NICU parents and those who don’t get to bring their babies home.”

“We’ve been visiting him as much as possible, and I know he’s in the absolutely best care.”

“Not being around him constantly is an added hurdle,” posted Jena. “Along with so much else emotionally.”

Jena didn’t get to go to her own baby shower, laughing that the baby was already “showing us who’s boss” with his early entry to the world. She generously donated the entire celebration to a local charity that supports seriously ill children.

About a week after her son’s birth, Jena revealed to her followers that Crew was “off oxygen … breathing on his own” and “meeting tiny milestones every day”.

“Day 20: The one where Crew goes home!”

Almost three weeks after making his early entry to the world, Crew got the all-clear and his parents got to take him home! Jena shared some sweet snaps of them leaving the hospital as well and the colourful, happy pic above with the caption:

“Day 20: The one where Crew goes home 🏡🥹🩵 Thank you to the angels on earth in the @jupitermedicalcenter NICU for taking such good care of our baby for 20 long days and nights 🫶 he’s ours now 😛😉”

And the name Blake? Jena’s social media was overrun with congratulations on ‘Blake’s’ arrival leaving many fans stumped. Jena explained that it’s been a long-running joke with Brooks that the baby would be called Blake and she even refers to Crew in a caption as Crew/Blake.

Jena and Brooks, who is a professional golfer, got together in 2015 and married in 2022, in Turks and Caicos.
