BIG W is giving away thousands of FREE treats for mums this weekend.

Mums, this one’s for you. BIG W is treating thousands of Aussie mums to free products to celebrate its new Autumn Winter home and clothing collection and it couldn’t come at a better time.

The initiative comes in response to new research from BIG W revealing a national ‘Treat Gap’ in Aussie households, with mums four times less likely to treat themselves than their kids, and 1 in 5 (22%) rarely treating themselves at all.

The treat gap is real

According to the research, mums leave more than 100 cups of tea unfinished every year while caring for others. They carry an average of four kid-related essentials in their handbags. They misplace 54 personal items annually thanks to household chaos. And their ears hear the word “mum” almost 100 times a week.

Add in the 85% of mums who regularly deal with unpleasant household smells and it’s no wonder “me-time” feels like a distant memory.

Free treats for mums

Mums around Sydney will be treated by the BIG W Treat Truck, a reimagined kids’ ice cream van, complete with its own ‘Treat Menu’.

Stopping at Luna Park Sydney from 10am–1pm on Saturday 21 February and then at Centennial Park from 3–4:30pm, the truck will be handing out thoughtful freebies designed especially for mums.

Over 2,500 lucky mums will also receive selected free gifts in BIG W stores nationwide this weekend. (Be quick, it’s while stocks last!)

What’s on the treat menu?

Each free gift has been cleverly linked to the everyday realities mums face:

  • Tea Cups – For the 100+ unfinished cuppas left each year.
  • Handbags – For mum’s things only (not snacks, wipes and toy cars).
  • Jewellery Boxes – For the 54 personal items misplaced annually.
  • Earrings – For the nearly 100 times per week she hears “mum!”
  • Scented Candles – For a blissful moment of me-time, far from household smells.

Don’t miss out

Customers can browse pieces from the new Autumn Winter collection at the Treat Truck’s Luna Park stop, snap a pic and pick up a freebie.

Treats at the Treat Truck and in-store are limited and available while stocks last, so if you’re in Sydney or heading into your local BIG W this weekend, consider this your sign.

Jules Robinson says it best

Mum-of-two, BIG W Style Consultant and former MAFS star Jules Robinson knows firsthand how tricky it can be for mums to carve out a little “me time.”

“The research really hit home because it reflects what so many mums live every day. We give so much of ourselves to everyone around us, often without even thinking twice, and somewhere in that juggle we can forget about ourselves,” Jules says.

When asked how she makes time for herself, she explains: “I’ve started making even my downtime intentional. If I’m having a binge night on the couch, I’ll grab a foot mask and an eye mask and really lean into it. It’s not just zoning out – it’s consciously treating myself, and that mindset shift makes such a difference. Once a year, I also take a solo trip, just for me. It might sound extreme, but I come back feeling so much fuller – better for my family, my work and myself. Even starting with something small can keep you in a good place.”

Jules also shared her recent personal treat. “The last thing I treated myself to was a foot massage this week because my feet were hurting after dancing at Ed Sheeran! It felt so good to properly switch off and do something just for me. I’ve become much more intentional about carving out those moments now.”

And what about the guilt many mums feel when doing something just for themselves? “I think every new mum feels that. You’re navigating a whole new world, and everything feels centred around your child,” says Jules.

“What helped me was reframing it. I reminded myself that looking after myself is also looking after my family. If I’m running on empty, I can’t show up as my best self. Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.”

For mums wondering how to start small, she adds, “For me, it comes down to communication and permission. I’m very lucky with my husband – we have this understanding where I can say I am out, and he knows I need a moment. Even stepping out for a walk, lighting a candle, or having 20 minutes completely to yourself can reset everything. It doesn’t have to be grand. Those small, intentional moments really add up.”
