Spanish baby names may have found their origins in Latin or they may have become Latinised versions of names from other languages, and there are some traditional naming patterns that have developed over the years.

Traditionally, parents in Spanish speaking countries choose their children’s names based on the name of a grandparent or parent. Dad’s side of the family gets the first look-in, followed by mum’s.
