Find out what other names proved to be popular.

And the results are in! Parents have a penchant for traditional baby names as Oliver and Charlotte top the list for the most popular NSW baby names in 2019.

The list released by the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages saw Oliver take on the number one position for boys, followed by Noah and William. It’s worth noting, Oliver has been number one for the past six years!

For the little ladies, Charlotte has been the top name for the past three years and took the crown once again, with Olivia and Mia following in second and third place.

Were you one of the parents who, like Duchess Kate, chose to name your daughter, Charlotte?

While the names topping the list are of course popular, they don’t rate as highly as they used too. Just 449 baby girls were named Charlotte and 568 boys were named Oliver in 2019, compared with the 1647 girls and 1486 boys receiving the top names of Jessica and Matthew in 1990.

As for middle names, James, John and William have been the top boy middle-name choices for the past 40 years, with Rose and Grace the popular girl choices, replacing Louise and Jane which was popular in the eighties and nineties.

Parents have 60 days to register their newborn’s name, establishing the child’s legal identity.

A final list of the top 100 baby names will be published in April.
