Flower & Flour is the hottest new TV show for kids.

If your child is anything like most, they’ve probably spent a few hours glued to the screen while you cooked dinner, folded laundry, or just had a few quiet moments to yourself. And you know what? That’s ok. Choosing the right shows can actually help little ones grow, not just entertain them.

When children reach preschool age, they start developing self-awareness: the ability to recognise their own thoughts, feelings and actions. It’s a big deal, but it doesn’t happen overnight. Programs that combine fun with emotional and social lessons can give kids a head start in understanding themselves, their emotions, and the world around them.

Enter ABC Kids’ new animated series, Flower & Flour… and yes, it might just be the next big hit for your little one.

Meet Flower and her cheeky Flour cat

Flower is a curious seven-year-old with a giant imagination and an even bigger heart. She lives above her parents’ bustling Austrian dumpling restaurant in the middle of a multicultural neighbourhood. And right by her side is her imaginary flour-bag cat, Flour.

Together, Flower and Flour turn the everyday into extraordinary adventures. A spring clean becomes a castle quest, a bedtime story turns into an epic mission, and a rainy afternoon transforms into a mission to fix the sky.

The seven-minute episodes mix imagination with real-life experiences, from mural painting to boba tea stalls and touch on deeper topics like dementia, showing kids empathy and compassion along the way.

Why parents and kids will love Flower & Flour

This isn’t just screen time. Flower & Flour celebrates friendship, community, and family, while giving young kids a gentle nudge toward understanding their own feelings and the world around them.

With voices from Simone Kessell, Rachel House, Nazeem Hussain, Rob Shehadie, Jacek Koman and Angela Tran, and creators drawing on their own childhood memories in Western Sydney, the series is relatable, diverse, and full of heart.

When and where to watch

Flower & Flour premieres 7:45am Monday 16 March on ABC Kids and ABC iview. Get ready: this could be the show your child can’t stop talking about… right after Bluey.
