The Devil Wears Prada star shares two daughters, Hazel and Violet, with husband John Krasinski. The couple welcomed their girls after tying the knot in 2010, and have kept their family life largely out of the spotlight.
And if you’re wondering whether her kids are impressed by her Hollywood status? Not exactly.
Emily has revealed her daughters watched The Devil Wears Prada and walked away with a very strong opinion about her iconic character.
“They think she’s ‘the meanest person they’ve ever met,’” she shared.
“It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people,” Emily said of the film’s lasting impact. “It’s people’s standby feel-good movie. It’s quoted to me on a weekly basis.”
Emily Blunt’s daughters are growing up out of the spotlight
Hazel, 12, and Violet, 9, are kept firmly out of public view, a decision Emily and The Office star have been pretty deliberate about from day one.
In 2021, Emily told The Sunday Times that her daughters were “oblivious” to their parents’ fame, and that she and John were more than happy to keep it that way for as long as possible.
That said, there has been one unexpected Hollywood moment to earn Emily some serious cool points at home and it involves Ryan Gosling.
After working with him on The Fall Guy and following his iconic role as Ken in Barbie, Emily admitted her daughters were seriously impressed.
“They’re so happy. They have never had any interest in anyone I’ve worked with ever,” she said on a January 2024 episode of Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist. “They know a lot of people I’ve worked with. But Ryan is – Ryan’s it for them.”
Raising Hazel and Violet
“They’re like bowling balls,” Emily once joked about the early years with her girls. “They come out, and you’re the bumpers trying to make sure they don’t get too hurt. But they’re on their own path.”
The couple welcomed Hazel Krasinski on February 16, 2014. John annouced her arrival on X (formerly known as Twitter) later that day, writing, “Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!”
In May 2014, when Hazel was almost 3 months old, John shared the first photo of her on X. “Pics of kids should only come direct from parents,” he wrote, before adding that he was “thrilled to introduce you guys to Hazel!!!”
Violet Krasinski was born in June 2016, and like her sister, her birth was announced by her dad on X.
Why Emily Blunt stepped back from Hollywood
In 2023, Emily took a deliberate break from acting to spend more time with her family, later explaining the decision was instinctive.
“There are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little,” she said. “I just need to be there for all of them for a good stretch. I just felt that in my bones.”
