Not only is breastfeeding your baby an important way to give them the nourishment they need to grow and develop, it’s also a wonderful way to bond with each other during that special skin-to-skin time.
Breastfeeding is one of the most natural things in the world but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. It can come with its own unique challenges so being prepared will help you have the best journey possible.
When a newborn first learns to latch on and breastfeed, they feed frequently and that can make your nipples sore and cracked.

5 tips for a better breastfeeding journey
Contain leakages
During pregnancy, your body gets ready to feed your baby and may start to produce the first milk – colostrum, which is thick and highly nutritious. Nursing pads can stop your nipples from sticking to your bra and when your milk ‘comes in’ around days three to five, you’ll find Lansinoh® Ultra-Thin Nursing Pads or Lansinoh® Washable Nursing Pads are a must. The contoured, discreet pads will contain leakages.
Let-down support and engorgement relief
Another product to help with breastfeeding is the Lansinoh® THERA°PEARL® 3-in-1 Breast Therapy pack. Simply pop in the microwave to warm and then let the flexible gel pack mould to your breast to encourage your letdown. This can be done just before feeding your baby, or it can be attached to your breast pump to gently warm the breast as you pump.

Difficulty latching on?
Ultra-thin, super soft silicone Lansinoh® Contact Nipple Shields have a special shape to help your baby latch on while maximising skin contact. It’s important to try to continue to breastfeed with latch-on difficulties caused by inverted nipples, tongue tie or overactive let-down, but your midwife or health nurse will be able to help with specific needs.
