2 in 3 Aussie mums nearly gave up breastfeeding – Bubka wants to help
Breastfeeding is harder without the right support, and Bubka is offering free lactation consultations to help.
If you’ve found breastfeeding tough, you’re not alone: The Australian Breastfeeding Association says most Australian mothers want – and start – to breastfeed, “there is a rapid fall in breastfeeding rates in the early weeks”. While are many reasons for this, new research by Aussie brand Bubka has found a lack of support can be a big factor.
It was actually the reason 2 in 3 mums told Bubka they almost stopped breastfeeding, according to an exclusive survey. So to mark World Breastfeeding Week (and Month), Bubka is offering a free lactation consultation with every purchase of a Bubka hands-free breast pump in August.
“Since selling our very first pump in 2022, we have helped thousands of mums and have ambitions to help millions more. That’s why, this World Breastfeeding Week, we’re not just posting a social media tile and calling it support. We’re giving real, tangible help,” Bubka co-founder Alicia Segal says.
How to get a free lactation consultation through Bubka
- Buy any Bubka pump during World Breastfeeding Month (August 2025) and you’ll receive an access code that will match you to one of 12 professional lactation consultants.
- Book your virtual one-on-one session. The code is valid for 3 months, so you can choose a time that suits you.
- Get expert advice and tailored support. Each International Board Certified Lactation Consultant can support you with breastfeeding, pumping, supply and more.
This offer is available to mums in Australia and New Zealand, and the free sessions are 15 minutes and valued at up to $300.
The inspiring reason Bubka was created
When co-founder Alicia had her first child, she experienced her own challenges with breastfeeding and pumping. Unfortunately, she couldn’t get the right help at hospital. But when she eventually saw a lactation consultant, her experience completely changed. And this is part of what inspired her and husband/co-founder Ari Segal to create Bubka.
“We created our wearable breast pump for mums who’ve lived the struggles and restrictions of traditional breast pumps and found just how liberating it was to pump on their own terms, not be stuck to a wall or a schedule.”
Bubka now has three breast pump designs, as well as a breastfeeding bundle, so you can choose what suits you. Here’s a look at each one that’s currently available, with prices based on buying a double pump (singles are also available).
