Food recall: ALDI spinach and stir fry products recalled over E. coli contamination concerns
Urgent food recall: ALDI spinach products may pose health risk.
ALDI has issued a recall for several spinach and stir fry products due to potential contamination with Shiga toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) – a harmful strain of E. coli bacteria that can cause serious illness.
What is STEC?
STEC is a type of E. coli that produces Shiga toxins, which can lead to severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, and fever. In some cases, it can cause more serious complications, particularly for young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
What were the recalled food products?
The following Fresh Salad Co products are affected:
- Baby Spinach 120g – Use by 28 MAR and 29 MAR
- Baby Spinach 280g – Use by 28 MAR, 30 MAR, and 31 MAR
- Fresh & Fast Stir Fry 400g – Use by 27 MAR
- Baby Spinach & Rocket 120g – Use by 27 MAR
- Salad Leaf Mix 120g – Use by 29 MAR
- Salad Leaf Mix 300g – Use by 27 MAR

Where were the products recalled?
These products were sold in ALDI supermarkets across Queensland and select northern New South Wales stores, including Tweed Heads South, Ballina, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Lismore, Casino, Toormina, Armidale, Byron Bay, Goonellabah, Tweed Mall, and Moonee Beach.
What should you do?
- Do not eat these products.
- Return the affected items to your nearest ALDI store for a full refund.
- If you have consumed these products and feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately.
