Woman gives birth to 7 kilogram baby and… WOAH!

That's the average weight of a six-month-old. 😳

A Brazilian woman became the proud mama to a baby boy weighing a whopping 7.25 kilograms (16 pounds!) earlier this month.

Cleidiane Santos dos Santos, 27, welcomed her son, Angerson, on January 18 at Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins.

The newborn measured almost 61 centimetres (2 feet long) and was delivered via a caesarean section.

A mother in Brazil welcome a newborn weighing 7.25 kilograms.

Obstetrician, Dr Artemisia Pessoa says Angerson is being monitored in the neonatal intensive care unit.

“We are just feeling joy, satisfaction and gratitude for everything having worked out in this case,” Dr. Pessoa from Hospital Padre Colombo told Brazilian newspaper O Globo, saying it was a “rare” and “risky” birth.

According to the World Health Organization, the average birth weight of a full-term male baby is 3.3 kilograms. The average weight of a full-term female is 3.2kg.

The average baby length is about 51cm, with most babies falling into a 49cm to 53cm length range.

New mum, Cleidiane Santos dos Santos praised her medical team for the care she and Angerson had received.

“I don’t know what would have become of me,” she told O Globo. “So I thank each one of them.”

According to The Guinness World Records  the heaviest baby to survive infancy is a baby boy who was born in Aversa, Italy in 1995 who weighed 10.2 kilograms (22 pounds, 8 ounces).

Australia’s heaviest baby was Stephen Lyttle, weighing in at 7.399 kgs (16 pounds 5 ounces), born at Kempsey hospital NSW in 1963.
